17th Annual Evening Under the Stars Gala Dinner
Location: Mann Biomedical Park
Valencia, CA
Time: September 25, 2010 @ 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting to rock "Evening Under the Stars"
One of the hottest names in music will take the stage at the Michael Hoefflin Foundation's annual "Evening Under the Stars Gala Dinner & Auction" on September 25, with one of Valencia's most popular restaurants serving dinner. Five For Fighting, the band name under which singer/songwriter John Ondrasik records and performs, will be the headline entertainment, and Salt Creek Grille will cater the 17th annual event.
"We're absolutely thrilled to welcome Five For Fighting to the Gala," said Jenny Ketchepaw, who is co-chairing the event with her husband Tim. "Every year this event gets bigger and better. Having an artist of this renown and caliber takes it to a whole new level."
Ondrasik's debut album, the critically acclaimed "Message for Albert," was released in 1997. Five For Fighting's breakthrough came in 2001 with the Grammy-nominated song "Superman" from the Platinum-certified "America Town" CD.
Already climbing the charts prior to 9/11, "Superman" went on to have a life of its own, becoming a song of healing for the nation. John joined other superstar musicians for the now legendary post-9/11 fundraiser, The Concert For New York, which paid tribute to the emergency personnel affected by the events of September 11th.
In 2004, John recorded "The Battle For Everything," another Platinum-selling album. It yielded the retrospective hit "100 Years," a song that has become part of the classic American songbook.
"We're especially pleased to have Greg Amsler from Salt Creek Grille come onboard as our caterer," Tim Ketchepaw said. "With their outstanding food and service, we know dinner will be better than ever."
More than 1,000 guests are expected at the event, which begins at 6 p.m. and will again be held outdoors on the expansive lawn of the Mann Biomedical Park in Valencia. With an extensive silent auction and exciting live auction, the Gala is the Michael Hoefflin Foundation's most important fund-raiser.
Proceeds assist the Foundation in accomplishing its threefold mission of research, outreach and education. Since its founding in 1995 the Foundation has infused medical research efforts with more than $2 million. Staff and volunteers bring emotional, financial and practical support to families coping with childhood cancers. Raising public awareness of childhood cancer through a variety of activities is also a priority of the Foundation.
